Democrats respect the rights of individual gun owners. Their focus is taking war weapons off the streets, making gun makers and sellers liable for irresponsible sales, and making weapons harder to attain by terrorists. source

Both parties support stronger trade deals with foreign countries. Each party has a different focus on the matter.

Wants strong protections and the ability to negotiate- or walk away- from any trade deal that does not benefit the American people. Strategies include aggressive trade deals and focusing trade efforts on countries that share our values. source

Wants strong protections when dealing with foreign trade, so our government can set rules in place that protect our environment, jobs, food safety, and health. source

Impeachment

House of Representatives has the power to bring charges of impeachment, and they voted to impeach President Trump on December 18, 2019. The Senate has the power to try the impeachment, and the Senate acquitted President Trump on both articles of impeachment on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Conviction in the Senate requires a two-thirds supermajority vote of those present. The result of conviction is removal from office.

One of the key issues in tax reform is whether Big Business tax breaks should be repealed, and which organizations should enjoy nonprofit status.

Republicans are against hypertaxation on any class or industry. They want to ensure past abuses against businesses, individuals, non-profits, and others are never repeated by the tax system. In regards to overseas businesses, they advocate for a territory based taxation- which will tax money made and stored abroad by American businesses and organizations. source

Democrats want to end tax breaks for large businesses and add tax penalties for companies that send their businesses, production, and funding overseas. They focus on increasing tax breaks to the lower- and middle-income families in order to lighten the cost of living burdens. source

As medical and recreational marijuana are legalized state by state, there is rising support by voters on both sides to make it fully legal. source

The GOP voter pool is experiencing a shift in recent years. While there are strong concerns about health concerns related to the drug, there is rising support by voters to legalize. Supporters want the rights and power to legalize to remain with the states.

The party strongly supports the legalization of cannabis. There is some debate on whether it should be fully decriminalized and regulated by the federal government or if these decisions should be left to each state.
